My favourite podcast player

Update: I’ve been using AntennaPod a lot recently. Podcast Addict is more fully featured, but AntennaPod is clean and easy to use.

Pros:

• A million and one menu options.
• It can download one episode from each of your podcasts and add that episode to your playlist. When you’ve listened to that podcast episode it will delete it and download the next one.
• I can listen on 1.5 x to speed up listening without turning voices into hamsters.
• It’s free and the pro version just removes an unobtrusive banner advert. I think the paid version gives you one or two small minor additions but not really that much that’s a deal breaker.
• Can set it to delete the intro and outro based on a number of seconds which is useful if the introduction is the same length for each episode of the podcast. I use it sometimes just to get rid of the initial chit-chat boring crap at the beginning of a podcast so they get to the real meat of the episode.
• When paused or interrupted by a call or other app notification, like a car navigation turn instruction it will jump back several seconds and start the playback from there so you don’t lose track of what the podcast episode was talking about. That’s a really classy feature.

Cons:

• It’s got a million and one options which can get a little bit daunting and a little bit difficult to find what you’re looking for.
• It’s not as pretty as some of the other podcast tools players.

Improvements:

I’ve not really looked into this yet so maybe it can do this already but it would be nice to be able to put podcast episodes into groupings so that for instance I can have a section on personal improvement or a section on property or a section on finance or business so that I can decide to listen to those podcasts at one time and just loop over those podcasts episodes. At the moment if you put them into an order and then maybe you skip one it goes onto the next episode and if you’ve ordered them in a certain episode order eventually they get out of out of order again. I’m not really sure if that’s a thing in podcast players or not to have multiple sections/playlists.
